Paul Manafort lied repeatedly to investigators working for special counsel Robert Mueller, a federal judge in Washington ruled Wednesday, all but ensuring the beleaguered ex-Trump campaign chief is going to face serious prison time.
U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled there was sufficient evidence that Manafort lied during interviews about his finances and contacts with Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian national who the FBI says is closely tied to the Kremlin’s top spy agency.
Manafort’s lies breached his plea agreement with the special counsel’s office and Mueller is thereby likely to recommend the longtime GOP operative not be given any credit for his cooperation in the investigation into possible collusion between Russians and the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Manafort, 69, has been behind bars since last summer.

He’s set to be sentenced in Berman Jackson’s court on March 5 on a laundry list of charges, including conspiracy against the U.S. and illegal lobbying. He will be sentenced separately in Virginia on charges of bank and tax fraud.
