Sportsbook Loses $276,424 on Trump ‘Lies’ Prop

Tuesday night, President Trump made his first prime-time Oval Office address to the nation. Sportsbooks across the market posted a variety of prop bets ranging from whether or not Trump would declare a state of emergency at the southern border, how long his speech would last and even what color tie he would wear.

However, one prop bet in particular ended up costing one sportsbook bigly.

Bookmaker.eu posted a prop on the amount of false statements Trump would tell during his address, setting the over/under at 3.5.

First reported by Buzzfeed News and confirmed by The Action Network, nearly 92% of bettors took the Over, which ranged from -135 odds to more than -250.

The prop bet was graded based on the Washington Post Fact Checker. In the end, the Post counted six lies, easily sending “over” bettors to Green Dot City.

As a result, Bookmaker had to pay out a whopping $276,424 to bettors who nailed the prop correctly.

“Political props have always been difficult to handicap, but setting a number for the total false statements made in the President’s address may have been one of trickiest numbers that our oddsmakers have had to create,” Bookmaker.eu Odds Consultant John Lester told the Action Network.

“We received a great deal of comments and opinions about our total of 3.5, but in the end, our oddsmakers were not too far off the final result of six total false statements. Never has a president make winning so easy for Americans. 92% of the action favored the over, and the President did not disappoint the public.”

Remember you D superfans, an impasse means BOTH sides can't come to an agreement.

While you solely blame Trump for not budging, your team ain't budging either.

On top of that, both Pelosi and Schumer are on record speaking for a wall and/or voting for a wall in Congress.

Only after Trump wanted a wall did they flip-flop and suddenly oppose a wall.

Meanwhile Trump's been consistent on this. From the beginning of his campaign to now he's been saying he's for a border wall.

This is what will hurt the Dems. They are still building sections from the Obama admin and now its "immoral" to fund it now LOL. So see through.

Best part is, this shutdown will cost more than what Trump was asking for. So we just lost money that could of built a wall. What a waste.
EVERYONE knows this is just about a win for the Dems by not letting the country have a wall. They could have had something and paid for nothing.

That's pretty funny. I'd have taken that bet, it was about as safe as Floyd Mayweather over Robert Guerrero.

Trump's lie to the troops about a fake payrise was one of the worst I've seen from him.

The speech lies were just the standard fear mongering from Trump.

Teleprompter Trump has passable delivery, I can't believe the Democrats speech drew more ratings. I don't mind Pelosi but Schumer has terrible delivery.

Newt Gingrich has an interesting take on the speech on Fox News. I'm not a fan of Newt but his comparison of Pelosi and Schumer to Egyptian mummies rising was amusing. It's worth a read.

Heard someone say it's harder to fact check Trump on the spot when he gives a speech because someone much smarter than him is writing his lies
