He announced import duties on steel and aluminum coming in from Canada Mexico and Europe. . 25% steel, 10% on aluminum. A general 25% on all products from China. He's just getting started. 25% on car parts and cars from Canada.
The news and current affairs magazine said Trump had told French President Emmanuel Macron in April that he aimed to push German carmakers out of the United States altogether.
I don't know what he is going to accomplish with all of this. Trade wars are generally bad for the economies of all the countries involved. As a Canadian it would be devastating since our economy is 1/10 or less than that of the US.

All Trump is demanding is fair trade.

They can cut their tariffs on us and Trump will be happy. Or they can keep their tariffs and Trump will jack up ours.

Trump has said he prefers zero tariffs to us having to match theirs.

If we get a trade war it's because they wanted it, not Trump.


As to costs, you are correct it will drive up costs of imported goods from countries affected. Domestic prices won't go up, however.

Of course this means there will be added incentive for companies to make things in the USA in the first place instead of importing them here to sell.

And with regulations being cut, it's easier to start up and expand production facilities here in the US.
