A man carves some rules into the rock.

People look at the rules and say hmmm that makes sense.

This man dies and they remember his rules and the things he said, maybe some of the nice things done. And hey presto we have religion. And we've forgotten loads of these, already.

Religions would have been born any which way. We could start all over again and again there would be more religions. Because why should we believe what just a man says? what's so special about this man?

Outside of Confuscious all these ancient law-makers (which is what they are) have done so because of divine intervention or of their perceived divinity, otherwise nobody would have listened to them because most people aren't sensible. You look to an innate sense of goodness or a type of internal natural law but once government falls apart you will get 10,000 people down the electrical store stealing fucking toasters.

For me that doesn't work as an argument. Since atheists have followed or at least pretend to undertake a certain level introspection on all things religious and come to an informed decision that it is in fact bollocks.

And then what?

They're not doing any harm they're not doing anything.
