So dumb they get caught lying about the numbers. What about the Yale and Harvard students who believe the same Mossback garbage? They are even dumber and obviously never had a statistics class. They got into Gender Studies instead, like any dumb shit would.

They haven't been 'caught lying', this is just one dude highlighting some possible idiosyncrasies in the data and putting his own interpretation on em.

immediately off the top of my head I can come up with one or two speculative reasons why you might well get smoothed distributions, which are to do with the limited capacity for gathering and checking the number and names of the of dead.

How many people do you think the Gazans have to check IDs collate reports from the various hospitals and the tattered remnants of rescue services? How many death reports can the available staff produce in a single day even if they were able to work 24/7.

That is a limiting factor right there. Perhaps they can process flat out 300 or 400 deaths a day... So what happens if there's 500 deaths that day? The reports get carried over until the next lull - maybe after a couple days they get a quiet one when only 200 or a hundred die - and then are processed then right? - thus bringing the numbers up for that day and smoothing the distribution.

And remember very many of the deaths don't come to light on the day they actually happened because those days of the most intense bombing and fighting and the dead can't be reached so they aren't found or dug out until a day or two days later when things have quieted a bit and no one knows for sure precisely when they died.

The whole chaotic situation makes the kind of analysis this dudes talking about essentially meaningless because it assumes perfect and immediate reporting and identification of the dead in a situation of absolute chaos and civil breakdown.

Feels mostly like the dudes a statistics guy sitting in an office or a campus who's simply given no thought to the real world conditions in the field that relate to how the data was gathered... Which frankly would be essential consideration in any genuine study and would necessarily be identified and accounted for.
