In 1984, civilization has been ravaged by world war, civil conflict, and revolution. Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain) is a province of Oceania, one of the three totalitarian super-states that rule the world. It is ruled by "The Party" under the ideology of "Ingsoc" (a Newspeak shortening of "English Socialism") and the mysterious leader Big Brother, who has an intense cult of personality. The Party brutally purges out anyone who does not fully conform to their regime, using the Thought Police and constant surveillance through telescreens (two-way televisions), cameras, and hidden microphones. Those who fall out of favour with the Party become "unpersons", disappearing with all evidence of their existence destroyed. - Wikipedia
It has been years since I read this book, does anyone read books anymore? In the book the earth is divided into three powers of corrupt government. They are what we would call Russia, China, And West Europe and the USA today.
It is 2024 and 2 of 3 " powers " are in fact totalitarian regimes that massively oppressed people. Speak out against them and you will be gone.
China is the most hive-like form of control today. Putin and Russia are bad, and here in Democracy of the USA , Cameras and microphones are everywhere. Just like in the book 1984. With the emergence of AI control of the masses will be easier than ever. Social media trends this way too. The wolk left fits into the dystopian 1984 like future. The left's true goal is control of the masses where the party elite runs things. Just like in the book 1984. Just like in China and Russia.
I saw the movie in the 1980's and it was chilling. In many ways it is a horror movie. The book should be an example for all of us as we are 2/3 the way to 1984 with the last bastion of hope for freedom being the USA.
War is threatening or active in several areas of the globe. The year is 2024. The book seems to be off by 40 years. I am a tad disturbed by Orwell vision.
