The ruling Hamas militant group in the Gaza Strip carried out an unprecedented attack on Israel at daybreak Saturday, firing thousands of rockets as dozens of fighters infiltrated the heavily fortified border in several locations by air, land and sea, catching the country off guard on a major holiday.

Several hours after the invasion began, Hamas militants were still fighting gunbattles inside several Israeli communities in a surprising show of strength that shook the country. Israel’s national rescue service said at least 40 people have been killed and hundreds wounded, making it the deadliest attack in Israel in years.

At least 561 wounded people were being treated in Israeli hospitals, including at least 77 who were in critical condition, according to an Associated Press count based on public statements and calls to hospitals.

Not often the Israelis are caught off-guard, it seems like 20+ years since the Palestinians were launching such big attacks.

Israel will want to get revenge and Palestinians have taken a lot of hostages, so the situation will probably escalate.

Hopefully Israel deal with them for good this time, I have no idea why people paint Palestine as the good guys and we get the whole #freepalestine stuff , 9 times out of 10 the Palestinians attack Israel first, Israel as the stronger nation retaliate and then people cry saying Israel went too far... is people just automatically taking the side of david against goliath without having a clue about the situation

2 million Palestinians have been living in what basically is a ghetto since the 1960's

They are treated like 4th class citizens in Israel. Houses that have belonged to Palestinian families for generations get taken away from the, they get thrown out, and the house is given to old Jewish couples from America who settle in Israel for retirement.

I don't condone this attack, but Isreal are not innocent here. Every neighbour country hates their guts. Just like every neighbor country hates Russia. That should tell you something.
