Well obviously circumstances changed - the West, in my view, made a ridiculous decision to directly work with Ukraine. That changed everything.

Everything changed when the US/West got involved. Pretty simple stuff really. To me it seems like the wrong move in many ways for the West to get so involved, but such is life.
