yeah i think TN as well....after Peyton breaks down the Niners he will realise he dont want to play w premodonnas Crabtree, and Moss...and or listen to Harbough...Manning has to have people he can control and run as his....he wont get that in San Fran but Titans are puppets, its perfect for him

Even before he worked out for the Denver Broncos on Friday, Peyton Manning threw passes for the San Francisco 49ers and underwent a physical exam earlier this week, according to league sources.

The Arizona Cardinals have been informed they would be wise to proceed without Manning as a candidate to join the team, leaving three teams as finalists to sign him, also including the Tennessee Titans.

Talks with the Miami Dolphins were described as "positive," but he informed them midweek they were not going to be among his finalists, sources said.

Now San Francisco is the sleeper team few were expecting.

Manning worked out for the 49ers on Tuesday night at Duke in Durham, N.C., with coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman witnessing a passing session that was described by a source as "very impressive."

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter says the Broncos will be arriving to see Peyton Manning work out soon. Plus, Schefter says the Cardinals may be leaning towards keeping Kevin Kolb this season. The Dolphins are the favorite to sign Matt Flynn.

It was impressive enough that the 49ers sent a doctor to Durham to administer a physical exam to Manning on Wednesday.

Once Manning works out for the Titans in the next two or three days, the process of football discussions, medical reviews related to his neck surgeries, physical workouts and parameters of a contract will be in place for the quarterback to make a decision on his next team.

There is no known deadline for Manning's decision, but the process has been exhaustive since he was released by the Colts on March 7. Before Friday's visit with Denver, it was Manning who insisted upon working out for the teams, endorsing the integrity of the process.

Manning first visited the Broncos two days later, followed by a visit to the Cardinals, but there have been other unreported developments during last weekend, such as the Seattle Seahawks parking a jet at an airport in the Denver area in a failed attempt to visit with the quarterback, according to sources.

Manning returned to Indianapolis after his Arizona trip to get an updated MRI on his neck. It was in Indianapolis where he visited with Dolphins coach Joe Philbin and offensive coordinator Mike Sherman. Sources also say Manning had a meeting with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross that occurred in Durham, where he has spent a majority of time working out at Duke.

The majority of teams that were provided with the latest medical data, including their own physical exams and extensive quality video of Manning's throwing sessions at Duke, had informed the quarterback that it was not necessary for the quarterback to physically work out for them.

While contract parameters have been discussed, extensive negotiations involving contract language also must be completed. Sources say that Manning will provide any team that signs him with appropriate financial protection in the event he suffers a setback related to his prior neck injuries.

              • Mario Manningham, 49ers have deal
                Updated: March 18, 2012, 12:54 AM ET

Free agent wide receiver Mario Manningham has reached an agreement on a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Drew Rosenhaus confirmed to The Associated Press on Saturday night his client had reached a deal with the NFC West champions.

Manningham was expected to depart the New York Giants in free agency after an impressive postseason and fourth quarter performance in the Super Bowl and he will be joining the team he helped beat in the NFC Championship.

Manningham will join an upgraded receiving corps that also includes Randy Moss, who signed a one-year contract Monday.

Manningham finished last season with 39 receptions for 523 yards and four touchdowns in 12 regular-season games. But he caught three touchdowns -- including one against the Niners -- in the postseason and had five receptions for 73 yards against the Patriots, including his sensational 38-yard fourth-quarter catch that set up the game-winning touchdown.

Manningham was a luxury for the Giants, who have Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. Cruz surpassed Manningham last season on the depth chart and general manager Jerry Reese eventually will have to pay both of his top wideouts, leaving Manningham free to go in free agency.

Manningham said during an interview prior to free agency that there were advantages to playing with an elite quarterback such as Eli Manning but that there are other quarterbacks out there.

"He is, but there are a lot of good quarterbacks in this league," Manningham told The Vindicator in Ohio recently. "I just want the ball more, that's all."

And Manningham just wasn't going to see consistent targets with Nicks and Cruz.

The Giants will have to find a new third receiver. Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin said at the NFL Scouting Combine they expect last year's third-round pick, Jerrel Jernigan, to step up this season. Also, the Giants would like to see what the 6-foot-6 Ramses Barden, a 2009 third-round pick, can do as well. They re-signed veteran wide receiver Domenik Hixon, who is coming off a torn ACL injury for the second straight year and still could add another receiver in free agency or the draft.

Manningham, 25, is eager to prove he can be a top receiver. He had a career-high 60 receptions for 944 yards and nine touchdowns in 2010.

"Yeah," he said when asked if he views himself as a top wide receiver and thinks a team will be willing to pay him as such as well. "It's a business. You got to look at it like that too. Their (the Giants) decision might come down to ... you never know. You got to look out for your family. That is how it is."

Nice receiving core for Smith or Manning.
