Has anybody tried being sober for several months? I mean not a single drink sober.

I have. Longest I ever did was 8 months and the only reason I started again was because of how predictable and boring life became. Life was good, I was doing well, but there was little range of emotions which I believe is what makes people feel alive.

I went 5 months sober once.

Yeah, I was doing fairly well, being productive, and all that.

I also lost most of my friends. Like I read somewhere, alcohol was the cement that held our relationships together.

And yeah, like blanc. says, life did become too predictable.

Still, not a bad thing to do under right circumstances.

I ended up having a stressful situation, and I started drinking again. Not the best reason to drink, obviously. I was pounding back non-alcoholic beers, one after the next. Then I switched to real beers.

I've quit a couple other times, but for the most part, I'm a solid drinker.

Same here. But once I started boozing again we became "best friends" again lol. Since then I've lost touch with most of my old friends because I realized we're just drinking buddies and you can do that with almost anyone.
