Michael had a head start due to his youth and strong promotion of him and his brothers by the man behind the Motown Sound -- Berry Gordy.

Michael wanted to, not just sing songs in front of audiences, but to put on the most spectacular performances he was capable of. Not so much to display his unique vocal skills, but to express his passion for the music physically by creating his own signature dance moves, which audiences the world over craved at all of his performances, and to showcase his own trend setting clothing designs and fashion.

If he had included instrument playing skills into his shows as well, one can only guess how much his bar as a performer would have been raised today
for others to follow.

What I appreciate more about Stevie's and Ray's musical talents are/were their amazing ability to sound consistently great vocally in their live performances as they did on their records.

It is rare, nowadays, to hear great live vocalists accompanied by great live bands.
