Mhmm, there are stretch bands that are also really good and work the triceps really well while using them. http://store.titleboxing.com/titlebo...dow-boxer.html
Using weights works the shoulders more because there is much more vertical resistance while the bands work horizontal resistance on the tris and bis.

I do a combination of both, the bands reallly give you a deep burn if u do it for even just a few rounds. I'll take a pair of 3lb dumbells and they work fine for a couple rounds. Get off and shadow without any resitance u feel like ****in wind throwing punches.

Well whats your motivation?
You can't have your cake and eat it too....if your motivations are strictly to look bigger and more cut then weight lift, if your motivations are to get better at sparring and boxing in general then don't lift or just lift explosively.

Its possible to achieve both just make sure you dont put on too much wieght on ur muscles, because they will slow everything down in which only makes you worse in boxing. And if your gaining muscle weight, ur slowing down, while gaining weight and moving up in weight classes. I do super sets which are 3 -4 exercises on one muscle of light weight all in a row to build the endurance. A few other boxers at my gym do it as welll and we all notice great benefits from doing it. Not massive weight gains in muscle, but muscle is conditioned for boxing, and clearly stronger. But do what you want.
