Does track help boxing, and vice versa

  • Does track help boxing, and vice versa

    I was wondering if my conditioning in boxing will help me in my events in track ( high jump, long jump, hurdles, and 200-400 meter races) And if track workouts will help in boxing as well.

      Not really into that much of long distance. Maybe 800 meters at the most. I was wondering if skipping helped condition the calfs for high jump and long jump.

        Your training for the jumping and short distance running could help with your power, Long distance running doesn't do **** for a boxer other than help shed fat. Short explosive and intense interval running is what a fighter should be doing, along with compound resistance training. Sound familiar? probably, because sprinters and jumpers do some of the same exersizes as a boxer. I think your boxing training would help for your track, more so than vice versa. A boxer needs to train his body for the "and Im sure everybody has heard me say it" 3:1 min work to rest ratio he or she is going through in a fight. Boxing is anaerobic in nature. Spints and jumps help tremendously when building power. Plyometrics are also a staple of a good training routine. "you can, I hope see the similiarities to the training of a jumper or sprinter" Your 800 meter runs are perfect, given your 800 time is in the area of 2-3min sure its better if you are competitave. An excellent training exersize for boxing is a good 800 meter sprint followed by 1 min of jogging and repeat 6-10 times depending on the number of rounds you are fighting. This helps a lot with your conditioning. I don't know exactly how heavy you train your legs and core, but these areas are vital to a boxer. Stength, endurance, speed and flexability need to be balanced If you want to add power you need to increase your max strength and the other atributes in an equal portion.

          Thanks a ton, very helpful and precise. Alot of unintelligent people criticize me for doing track and then going to the boxing gym after and working out. I dont think im over working myself as some would say because most boxers get in a "road" workout before they hit the gym anyways.

            Doing your roadwork right before boxing would be a tough schedule. I would say spread the activity out over a couple of hours, but that may not fit your schedule.

              Yah cuz i am still in highschool.. So between 3-10 is my only time to workout -- My track workout would usually be from 230-430, then i go to bxoing from 6 to 9 .
