I have been thinking about it over the last 2 weeks, I have looked into it and it seems the way to go, however I am scared to start..

I know that sounds silly, but I am a really shy guy and I am having trouble taking the plunge and starting. I know I don't have to get in the ring with anyone, I also know I will help me with confidence and focus.

    But I am nervous.

    Any suggestions?

The last time i returned to the gym, i was nervous and scared. Its just an anticipation of sparring. If you ain't going to sparr no worries. Most boxers are shy. There ain't that many loud boxers. Sparring usally makes a fighter humble. Once you start training, evey part in your body will ach this is normal, the first two weeks will be hell for you, even if you're at you're own pace. Just go to the gym and stick with it, you will be glad you did and you will lose a lot of weight and gain tremendous confidence.

all three of those objectives will be accomplished by boxing, Weights in boxing isn't for building muscle. Its for adding strength to complete the balance of Max strength, Speed and Endurance.
Well, the guy was asking about building muscle and boxing is not the best way to do it.

If you follow the sport, you'll notice that there are a lot of boxers who have been boxing for a long time but still managed to stay within their weight division. I don't think they've built muscle and gained weight because of their boxing-type workouts.

Yes, boxing will develop explosive strength in the muscle, but not size.

Let's go back to the question of the poster: he wants muscle size and not just explosive strength or speed. There's a more effective way to accomplish this, and it is via weight training.

Haven't you heard of "training specificity"?

Well guy's Today I took my first step. I ****** in my nerves and went down to my local boxing gym for my first Circuit session.

All I can say is I am Stuffed

I have never worked so hard in my whole life, the best part is I enjoyed every minute of it.

After I was done, I could hardly walk to the car, hehe. But I will be back again.
I have never sweat so much in my life. I have a new appreciation for Boxers.
You guys are the fittest people in the world.
The guys down at the gym were great and the trainer was a great guy, He knew I was new and help me allot and encouraged me to work harder.
I will be back again next week for another hour of Hell.
I am going to try and do it 2 nights a week, Tuesday and Thursday.

I am sure I will be sore tomorrow but the guy said go for a walk in the morning to stretch it out.
Thanks guys for your encouragement I don't think I would have gone down if it wasn't for what you guys said.

        Thanks again.

            Hi Boxingguy1226,

            Go for It!

I was as nervous as hell, don't know why, I have no intention to be an ameteur or anything just want to train. But I went down and did a training circuit.
It was fantastic, but I can tell you I am sore all over today.
But I am sure once I start going every week I won't pull up as bad.

Let us know how you go.
