lol. I know it's gotta be getting old. I just get tired of the ancient ways Potatoes and those who think like him hold back boxing. The fact is there is a lot a fighter can do to impove notonly his max strength, but starting strength "speed" and agility by using resistance training. "weights included"
Punch Drunk gave me a pretty good formula as far as reps and sets go. I'll let him actually answere the question. But I'm here for Potatoes should he show his face. lol

Check out Punchdrunks posts in this thread http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=91152
After his advice and some research I changed my routine up And do fewer reps and more weight. I still like to push myself on a day That I know I have a long recovery time available. I'll give it to punch he knows his stuff.
If you could get bigdozer to comment in this thread it would be a good thing as well that guys like a walking info site on how to train.

I don't have near the knowledge on the subject that Punch Drunk has, Or Bigdozer he'll flat lay it out for you exactly how and why. I do know the benifits of strength training and the basics on its purpose and how it effects the human body through my own experiences. Potatoes makes me laugh with his theories. It's archaic. Like talking to a caveman. I just hate that some kid may read his posts and sell himself short, and never reach his potential. because the old time greats didn't use weights as often. But if they had imagine the outcome. An even stronger faster Foreman, Frazier with more power. Ali moving even quicker and hitting harder. There is a right way to do it. And a wrong way, You can benifit greatly if you do some research and apply what you learn to your routine. And don't get set in your ways. Keep researching, Learning strive for progress. Whatch what happens. while potatoes and his kind just fade away.

              work with upper/lower body splits...

              Monday-upper strength
              Tuesday-lower strength
              Thursday-upper dynamic
              Friday-lower dynamic

for strength days pick one exercise and go for a 1-3 rep max

then do another strength exercise and go for 3-5 reps

then do assistance work for 6-10 reps

on dynamic days do 10x3 with 50% of 1RM and cycle it

and do assistance just like max effort days
