Louis and Marciano made me realize that you didn't need to be an ******* to be a great boxer. I read "The Great Black Hope" by Richard Bak and "Biography of a First Son" by Everett Skehan about Louis and Marciano respectively and became instant fans. I also read "King of the World" about Ali.
I had watched boxing a little at the time, but was more into martial arts and kung fu movies. Reading these books, I began to have serious respect for boxers as individuals as well as for the sport itself. I think that's when the "boxing bug" bit me, reading about Louis and Marciano and getting their fights on VHS and watching them over and over while shadowboxing and imagining what it would be like to fight in front of thousands of people. I was maybe 14-15 at this time.
Then I joined a local boxing gym and started watching any fight I could see. Went to live local boxing matches. Fell in love with the sport.

The Klitschko Bros. Growing up seeing their fights from Germany in Ukraine while they where coming up, seeing my contries flag waved in a foreign country made me proud, and from there on I became interested in the sport.
