Chips and gravy. Out here we call that putein or poutaine, depending on whether you're in the northwest U.S. or British Columbia. Nasty stuff. Instant sodium headache.

My funniest British food story: I was in London several years ago with a couple of friends, one of whom is the cheapest bastard I've ever met. We were at a pub, he orders the cheapest thing on the menu -- a "chip butty" -- not knowing what it was. A freakin' French Fry sandwich!

He's staring at it in disbelief, his mouth hanging open. My buddy Bill saying, "Of course it's a French Fry sandwich, you cheap f--k! Whatdja expect?"

Actually the first hour to two (Edit: after a hard workout, that is) is the best time to eat that, if you have to eat it. This is because your metabolism is still fired up, and more of the calories will be absorbed for recovery of your muscles, and glycogen stores.

The other day i eat 4 slices of pizza and a drink of soda. 3 hours before a work out damn, i paid for it big time when i was working out. And today, i didn't eat anything before i worked out and paid an even bigger price. But this is also my second week working out, first week training, i was only able to do the boxing excercises, usally i do running and more shadow boxing afterwards but man i was dead. By the 6 round i was punching one punch every minute it seemed. But im sure the second week will be better. But yeah, eating junk food or unhealthy food before a work out will really mess you up in training.

If you want to lose weight, eat 5-8 small meals (some of 'em can be between meal snacks, like banana's, apples, a protein shake or nuts) throughout the day, so you'll never have the time to get completely starved, but never eat 'til you're completely full. Healthy stuff of course.

Training on an empty stomach will just cause your blood sugar level to drop, making you weaker, and slowing your metabolism. You want a fired up metabolism for strength, energy in training, and for weight loss.
