  • why is it that new school training works better in amatuers??

i find that new school training like HIIT, explosive works, etc works better with fighters fighting only 4x2 rounds in the amateurs while fighters in the pros training new school, get busted and old schol is what seems to work better in the pros?

something i noticed and wanted to get different opinions on

Because 4x2 is much simpler to train for. You don't need as much stamina, and can concentrate more on going all out immediately. In a 12x3 fight, you still have to have the ability to go all out immediately, or at any given moment during the fight, yet you need stamina to last the distance as well.

These two parameters, longer term stamina and explosiveness, are at opposite ends of the scale. If a high level Olympic weightlifter (who needs to be strong and explosive to the max) starts jogging 3 miles a few times a week, you can be sure his performance will suffer for it. If a marathon runner starts lifting heavy 3 times a week, that will hurt his game as well. At first he'll be so sore, he can't get his weekly mileage in. Later on, he might not keep getting sore, but his body will still have a hard time getting enough recovery so as to be able to run whatever miles he usually does a week.

So for a pro, who fights for longer periods of time, the training parameters at each end of the scale require much better planning to get a balance between the two.

An amateur is like a sprinter. With the 4 short rounds and a minutes rest you can go almost all out the entire distance.
A pro is like a marathon runner who has to shift between short rests and all out sprints the entire distance of the fight.

All that said, I don't think you're necessarily right about the "new schoolers get busted in the pro's" thing. There's still such things as boxing skill, heart and so on to take into consideration.
If you have a fight between fighter A who does new school training, and fighter B who's old school, and B wins. Does that prove old school training is better?
      "Sure!"
Okay, how about the 25 old school guys fighter A knocked out on his way up?
"Well he was a lot better than those tomato cans..."
Right, so when he wins, it's because he was better, but when he loses, it's because of his training philosophy, and not because the other guy was better?
      Hmmmm.... Potatoes logic for ya'

I've been around boxing longer than you have been alive and can tell you that the flavour of the month training gimmick alternates with the full moon. There is many a kid who fought his way out of the slums with nothing more than talent and heart. They didn't need all this fancy equipment nor did they need any of this bull**** and bafflegab that masquerades as science. You may also take note that the people who do the most talking about training do the least amount of training!

i might be wrong but just a thought...

the old school fighters like joe louis or jeck dempsey did a lot more sparring and technical work than the guys today who use weights or do drills like that and more scientific approach...not that its wrong, but they spend less time in the ring

The pros are better conditioned. They could fight amateurs if they wanted. You gotta be tough, e.g. exceptionally conditioned, to fight professionally.....
