  • Types of punches...

I was wondering... Is it normal that I puncher harder with a straight rather than a hook? I don't know why, but I punch a lot harder with a straight than a hook. Is that an advantage or a disadvantage?

perfectly ok. My right hook is actually weaker than my left even though im right handed, but its no biggie. Just dont let your opponent know that you have any weaknesses

no man, Whats your tenchnique like. If your using your right leg to push in the right that gives extra power as the hook doesnt have the push from the leg, only the turn of the hips.

Straight right should be your hardest punch anyway...

Depends on his style. He might want to concentrate on hooks and uppercuts if hes an inside fighter.

As for what should be hardest I dont know

If his straight punches are his hardest, why would he want to be an inside fighter?

Of course, he might be short, but since his straight punches are his hardest, I doubt it. Biomechanics.

Spend another 1000 hours perfecting your technique then come back and tell us how things are going.

Its very normal, listen to how a fighter is praised for having power with both hands. Having equal power in both hands is an ambitexterous talent, not a given. I love punching with both hands I love my right cross and left hook equally and try as often as possible to throw the hook behind my cross. Some figther just fall in love with one punch, or trainer just focus on the punch the athletes perfect first.

If at any point you aren't punching from you legs first you are punching incorrectly. Kinetic engery transfers from the ground up, hell you don't have to be a muscle physiologist just watch figth science.

Here you go this is how punching power is produced
