  • Bruised Ear

    Learning curve. . ..

The top of my right ear is purple. I had it bent over under my headgear while sparring today -- I'd put my headgear on in a hurry and figured, "Oh, no big deal. Tough it out." Of course I got nailed with a left hook almost immediately. Like someone driving an ice pick through the side of my head.

Wow, it smarts. It's like a headache, but in a different place than I've ever had one.

Note to noobs: PUT YOUR GEAR ON RIGHT. Take the extra few seconds to make sure everything -- EVERYTHING -- fits right.

I heard Sir Henry Cooper once say that men with cauliflower ears were usually pretty good boxers! I don't know whether that is true or not, but I do know that you may need medical attention otherwise you may soon have an ear that looks like it belongs in a vegetable garden.

yeah, that would hurt. I recommend either amputation or , after the ear heals, not folding your ear over again in the headgear before you spar.

Damn I was wondering what that once...I was thinking I was taking shots to the side of my head or something but never really remembered any lol...but the folding of the ear seems more like what happend, cuz I have had that twice now in my last two sparring sessions..

          Good to know

I need to get a pic. It doesn't hurt anymore but there's a perfect line right where the crease was, now.

            Weirdest.

            Bruise.

            Ever.

Did any of you see that fight a couple of years ago where Margarito mauled some guy from South America, and really ****ed up his ear? Well, the doctor decided to perform surgery right there in the ring with no anesthetic. They needed several guys to hold him down while he screamed in pain! You gotta be tough to be a boxer.

Along those lines, after one fight I had a pretty good sized swelling above my left eye with a nice gash right in the middle of it. The doc came into the locker room and told me to lay down. He pulled his fish hook and thread and moved in. I was like hold on man, nothing to numb it up? He said no so I asked him if I could atleast run up to the bar in the palace and I would see him again in like 10 minutes. He would have no part, layed me back and stitched me up. It really didnt hurt though, with the adrenaline still pumping. But you are right, boxers are a tough breed.
