  • which glove is safer?

just curious, now we all know that Winning is the pillow/safe glove for pro fights and sparring.

we also know that amateur boxing gloves are meant to be safe.

everlast 10 ounce amateur competition gloves
    http://store.everlastboxing.com/ever...ur-gloves.html

    or

winning softtype 10 ounce training gloves
    http://winning-usa.com/softtypeprogloves.html

some people i see at the gym that do "technical sparring", use 10 ounce or 12 ounce amateur competition gloves. i know 16 ounce is the standard for sparring, but they were holding back on power, and focusing on speed and defense.

so would they be better off sparring with the 10-12 ounce winning soft-type training glove or 10-12 ounce amateur competition gloves?

No glove is safe. They hit you, somtimes you get stunned, hurt or wobbled.

Sparring with 10 oz and taking it easy doens't make sense. Might as well have a coach work the mitts with you. edit; if your going to take it easy in sparring regular size gloves are still preferred, imo.

Sparr hard use 14 or 16 or bigger size gloves.

If you can afford the winning gloves I'd say go with them. It becomes a question of cost with these two, I've never used the winning gloves, but have heard nothing but praise about them. The amateur gloves are regulated gloves as far as there construction goes. And would do you fine as well. Myself, I spar with 12 oz grants and 16oz everlast pro training gloves. Used to use the Reyes 12's but cut too many training partners. I feel they are too hard.

is the everlast pro training softer than the grant?

ok, now what about this, which provides better protection for the hands?

the everlast amateur glove, or winning softtype glove (both in 10 oz.)?

that's assuming both gloves being worn with 180inch mexican style handwraps, not amateur competition wrapped hands.

but if the amateur glove were to be worn with amateur competition wrapped hands vs. winning softtype with 180inch mex style wraps, i'd guess the amateur glove would be safer on the hands.

Tuff call, I've only used the amateur gloves while taped up. And I was refering to hand protection with the first reply, I've heard a lot of praise about the Winning Gloves. I love my Grants you can feel the punch perfectly in my opinion. Not too soft nor hard. I think my everlasts are harder, both are excelent though.

They are good "punchers" gloves they are hard though and cutters. Well made I think I quit using mine after a few bad cuts to sparring partners.

I owned Winning 14oz. gloves. they fit good, the leather was pretty cheap, nothing like the awesome Grant leather. But they are firm and the padding hits hard. They are not soft at all. Ringside gloves are much more padded. Winning gloves fit almost exactly like Reyes.

                    boxingcp,

how would you compare the hand protection from an amateur competition glove to winning training glove?

after all, i see people spar with amateur competition gloves.
