    Dental Health.

    Hey guys,
Quick question for any/everyone. Have any of you ever had any teeth damage during amatuer boxing or sparring? I.e. - lost a tooth, chipped a tooth, etc? To be honest, its the only thing I'm afraid of because there is about three thousand dollars worth of investment in my teeth (braces, wisdom teeth, etc.) and I like them where they are. With headgear and a mouth piece, I figured the jaws/teeth are pretty well protected, but once again, I have yet to spar in a boxing ring. Anyone?

So far, so good. I use an Everlast Facesaver for sparring -- the kind with the chin protector, not the bar -- and the Shock Doctor Ultra (or whatever, the one that costs $10 more than the regular Shock Doctor.) The SD comes with a $10,000 warranty for dental damage if you get your teeth or jaw injured while wearing it. I showed it to my dentist, and told her I wanted something similar but better in a custom job, and she said save my money, a custom one would be only marginally better.

During my fight on Saturday the inside of my lips sustained a few cuts from the edges of the mouthpiece but my teeth are fine. FWIW.

LOSING TEETH AND BREAKING THEM DOESNT SEEM TO HAPPEN A WHOLE LOT IN THE AMATEURS. YOU CAN GET THE FACE SAVER HEAD GEAR TO HELP OUT TO. I'M NOT SAYING THAT IT DOESNT HAPPEN CUZ IT DOES BUT IT'S NOT AN EVERYDAY OCCURANCE. JUST GET A GOOD QUALITY MOUTHPIECE AND HEYBRUSH UP ON THE DEFENSIVE SKILLS WOULDN'T HURT
