Shaddow boxing is one of the most important training exercises a boxer can do, but the sad fact is most guys are just wasting their time with it. If you don't have you mind on what you are doing you may as well not even be doing it. You don't always get the chance to do ring drills, but you can always run the routines through your mind while shaddow boxing. If you are thinking about *****....Go home! In the gym you should be thinking about boxing.

            Light sparring. Quick, light hits.

It's possible to develop glove-shyness -- or worse, get frustrated and start freezing up -- when someone is beating the crap out of you regularly. If your sparring sessions are getting worse and worse, then you're going to really start getting frustrated when those big punches land.Your Inner Monkey hates getting punched. He may like fighting, but no one in his right mind likes getting punched.

I spar every time I go to the gym -- 3-4 times per week -- but maybe only maybe once a week or so I'll throw moderately heavy punches. The rest of my sparring sessions are comprised of fast, light "snapping" punches. Less to worry about -- I can concentrate on form and cover, but still land hard enough to not hyperextend my elbows or pull a muscle (I am fairly certain that I am WAY older than you ), and it really helps me keep a cool head for those sparring sessions when the big punches come flying in.

more sparring, and after each sparring session you have to take away something that you learnt and you plan on doing differently next time.

the only way you get better at sparring is more sparring.. the hardest thing for most fighters is being able to relax in the ring. learning to relax comes with constantly sparring shadow bxing is about having a imagination and visulizing your opponent in front of you. think about what he is going to do and what you are going to do. many people thinking shadow boxing is jsut about getting your punching muscles warmed up, but it is also about visualizing and making you think.

boxing is a thinking man's game....

if you want to build your confidence, then start out only sparring with someone to the body and just stand there and trade then sparr full on, a couple days later.
