  • Hello, Im new and I need help.

    Hello Everybody,

    I am 16 years old and always liked boxing now I want to become GOOD at it not proffesionaly or anything just be good at the sport. But I slacked of for a while and I want to get back in shape Im a big guy 6'1 around 235-240 pounds Im currently working 1 hour a day but I want somebody to help me to loose weight and gain muscle any advice will be great. Thanks in advance for any help given out.

    get a healthy diet,1 of the most important things about losing weight and buildin muscle,find a nice boxin gym with a good trainer and tell him ur situation,or make a good programme for the gym,1 hour aint enough,u need 2 train hard,mix ur cardio with abit of weight liftin,and u should be alrite,im not the best person 2 ask tho im sure theres a few ppl on here can help u

        run alot but start small, work up to like 5 miles a day in a few months or when you feel ready and spar and hit the bag alot, and go to a gym

            protein is good,eggs,fish,chicken,beans etc

            u can buy whey protein aswell thats like a milkshake u can drink before workin out and after

            try to space out ur meals to like 6 smallish meals a day instead of 3 big 1s

              I posted this on another fighters thread about fitness boxing, You could use the advice to I think.
              Your goal is to be fit. Combative athleets are amongst the "fittest" so you have a good strategy. I would say you need more work if becoming a boxer was your goal, but your routine sounds fine to start. If I were you I would mix it up and add some variety this is to keep from getting into a tiresome rut. I love burpees for strength trainig and fitness. Add some body weight "explosive" squats, some lunges. Do them inbetween rounds with the heavy bag. On that note try to mix up the routine with the bag maybe one time put in 4-5 2 min rnds. Keep it intense through out. Next time do 10-1 min rounds at a very fast pace. (remember the burpess, lunges, and spuats inbetween) Keep moving the whole time give yourself 30 seconds or so to catch your breath, but no more. And three times a week should do.
              I don't know how hard you hit or intend to hit, I myself couldn't use a 70lb bag the thing would swing like crazy. I also don't know how much you intend to spend. So I gues thats up to you, I will say if you do train on your own. Keep in mind that you don't intend on using those skills at any time. Bad habits are easy to pick up. And unlearning them take valuable gym time. So if you truly never intend to fight it's ok to use this tool. If you think that possibly you may take up boxing get a coach to show you the correct form and use of the heavy bag. This wouldn't be a bad idea anyway, just to make sure your doing it right and don't injure yourself.
              I advise fitness boxers to use 16oz gloves. You are not used to
              punching and don't need to get use to it. So the extra padding helps. HANDWRAPS ARE A MUST. NOt an option, "that is if you intend on keeping your hands in good health"
              Jog on your "boxing days" keep those days your "hard" days and go to the gym on easy days. You want to be able to run a mile under 8.5 to 9 min before your begin training. When (if) you get more advanced in your fitness level. add some sprints for 50 mtrs or so in the jog routine. Idealy you'd run for 4 miles or so.
              You want to streatch excessivly before you get to the bag do a lot of push ups. and shadow boxing for a couple of weeks before you start the Bag. Shadow box for 10-15 min do ab work, burpees, squats, lunges, run, and jump rope in the begining. Your back and sides are going to kill you the first time you unleash on the bag. Be prepared for your recovery time. I'd leave the gym alone for the weights for the first couple of sessions. You need to let your body recover.
              These pointers should have you well on your way and you should see some good results in 2 months provided you eat right. Good luck and have fun
              I have also posted some of my training routine this is somthing for you to look forward to
              I get up at 3:30 every day to do my road work, thats 4 miles at a better than comfortable pace, then spints, pushups and burpees. I also like to after a 4 mile run, do a routine like 20 burpees, 50yd sprint drop to 20 isometric pushups, (claps) jog back to the starting point, 15 squatthrust, or mnt climbers sprint another 50yds jog back to start and repeat 5X or 400 meters of carying a 100 lb bag matched with more sprints or stair climbing for four sets. Thats just the start of my day. I spar 10 rnds later on after work my warm up for that is 4 rnds jump rope, 4 rnds speed bag and 4 rnds shadow bowing. 3-4 RNDS heavy bag Inbetween rnds of heavy bag I do body weight squats, lunges. or pushups. You can see I incorporate the conditioning into my skills training. Off days I take it a little easier with the road work do my weight training and strength exersizes I do nothing on Sat and Sun to recover. Mix it up and keep it interesting

                azza: about the food I eat basicly regularly like I just to maybe a little less but I dont eat anything after 6 oclock maybe some boiled eggs and raisens to calm the stomach some times

                danymite: I havent eaten pizza or hamburgers like 2-3 weeks. I cant run 5 miles I can barely run like 3/4 of 1 I try to jogg every once in a while but I cant regularly.

                  Thats why you wake up early and run, and about the five miles there are fighters who only jog one or two miles. to warm up for a more anaerobic routine. (4X400-600 meter sprints) So your fine working into the jogging, Some say Boxing is only 20% aerobic, and that the old school running 5 miles a day is an excess. I do long distance running to step up every aspect of the game aerobic and anaerobic, to I dont have an opinion against either theory. I do know that the more anaerobic conditioning I do the longer my power and stanima lasts in a fight so I live by it.
