hey cool, I'm fighting tomorrow as well, I've known about it for a few weeks though. I love boxing, and it has been a positive in my life, but the 72 hours before a fight can be pretty difficult sometimes.

    good luck though.

      So-o-o-o-o. . . noob question:

What do you feel before a fight? In the 72 hours before? The 24 hours before? The ten minutes before?

Should we start a "Pre-Fight Jitters" thread? It may help some of you who are going through it if you talk about it, and it may help some of us noobs get through it if we know what to expect and/or that we're not alone with whatever we end up feeling before a fight.

Before a fencing match. . . . nothing. Of course, in fencing, there's practically no chance of getting actually injured -- or injuring someone else. And there's no physical pain involved.

When I'm hunting, and I can see the animal coming toward me, I get shaky; my heart races, my hands tremble. That's mostly, I think, in anticipation of disappointment -- namely, something happening that blows the shot: the critter turns the wrong way, the wind shifts and I get sniffed out. That kind of thing.

But when the shot presents itself -- that splitsecond when the critter turns broadside and looks away for a moment; there is ONLY THAT MOMENT to make it work -- in that moment, I get very calm and I start calculating. Ice in my veins as I put up my bow, draw, and release -- that's the only way I can do the hard thing and do it cleanly. I'm so calm when I shoot that afterwards, I barely remember drawing my bow.

I hope -- HOPE -- that I can find that kind of calm and strength in the ring. I have the sinking feeling, however, that the ring is going to present a completely new set of circumstances that none of my current skills will help me with.

it alway good to try to be calm and mature.

dont try to trade punchs too early and use the jab to test you oppenet reaction and strenght.

you are better but the question is the other guys gyms is different that your so dont expect that he will fight the same style he fough with you in sparring.

consider you fighting like you fough the other 2 guys.

last thing are you from Barzil?

Ive been back for a while but went to sleep as soon as I got home lol. We fought today around probably 1 or 2.

The ref stopped the fight in the 3rd round and I won. But its a funny story. When we started, the 1st round we were both cautious and nobody landed much except he hit me with a good uppercut. The second round I started countering everything he threw. He got pissed I guess and dropepd his hands and let me hit him so I did and he stumbled bacwards and got a standing 8. We started again then like 30 seconds later he dros his hands and let me hit him again and the same thing happened. Then the round ended. In the third round I had him on the ropes and he out his hands down again and I hit him with like 10 punches, lmao i was working his head like a speedbag, and the ref stopped the fight.

So basically he just quit and made a ****** decision to drop his hands. Then he tried talkin **** to me after the fight and I just laughed at him and told him he just lost. Im just happy I got another fight over with, I cant wait until I have tons of experience.

The ten minutes before a fight I find myself relieved and happy that I'm actually about to go into the ring and get this **** done. Especially since I am a more experienced boxer in a higher weight class, I usually have to wait around the arena for a long time while the other fights are going on and I'm usually like the 20th fight or something like that, and just waiting around while the other fights are going on the tension really builds.

I miss the times when I was just starting and I would get to be fight number 3 or 5 and just get right in there, because the waiting is the worst part. Then I just get my fight over with, and sit back and relax and watch the rest of the fights. As a new boxer you will hopefully be afforded this luxury in your first few fights.

While your actually in the ring fighting, most people are pretty comfortable, because this is what you actually trained and prepared for, nothing ever in your life prepared you for the 8 hours beforehand!

If you want to start a Pre Fight Jitters thread I'm sure many people would be happy to reply in it, as it is the toughest part of boxing in my opinion.

And by the way everyone, I'm also happy to report that I won my fight. He was a pretty good boxer who would move around on the outside, so I just stayed back and snapped nice quick jabs at him and won a pretty easy decision.
