  • Question about my weight class....

Well, I'm planning on going to this boxing club a few miles from my apartment and I wanted to get more info about boxing in general. Anyways when I was looking through the USA Boxing rulebook online I glancing at the weight classes and I was just curious to know what some of the more experienced boxers would feel is a better weight class for me.

So I noticed both Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions have about a 15 pound allowance so which do you think would be an easier weight for me to go into. I'm 19, 6' 5" and 185 pounds. I don't know if this helps or not but I have a super fast metabolism and I can easily and naturally lose or gain 2-8 pounds (but I've gone under 180 or above 195), same thing with losing and gaining muscle. It just happens very quickly for me.

So which division would be better for me. I think the obvious answer would probably be to see which one I like better but just from your personal experience which do you think would be easier for me to start out in or train in? I really do appreciate your help

Are you naturally strong? If yes, I would go to a higher weight class but if you're not that naturally strong, stay in lower weight classes...But I don't have much experience with that...just my .02

you would be a good sized light heavy weight, The heavies are packed with guys your heigth, but have about 20-30 lbs on u and are used to being up there in there weight. Use that reach and height in as low a class as you can get into while remaining in prime fighting condition and work up.

Stick to light heavy. With age you will gain bulk automaticly, so that's the time to look to be a heavyweight.

start at light-heavy and you will naturally grow into a heavyweight, if your 6-5 u need to be jabbing alot 2

I'm happy with being 6'2" and 222 lbs.

Although Lennox Lewis said that 6'5" is the perfect height for a HW boxer and that he had the perfect reach and weight. So I can see why a lot of guys would like his build.
