  • Stance help

I just have one question. When in a boxing stance, what is the fundamental way of having the lead foot? Is it pointing straight directly at the target, or turned in? What about the rear foot is it 45 or 90 degrees? Are both lead and fear supposed to be the same at 45?

Me personally, I have the lead foot always pointed at the target. What are you doing at the moment?

Hello, hope you are well. At the moment, I am just trying to learn the basics of boxing. I have lots of equipment, and will be signing up for a gym this summer to compete amateur.

I think it's best to start with personal training

I keep mine straight as well. Some coaches will say that a straight lead foot will make you fall off balance throwing your back hand punches, but your lead foot has to be straight to open your hips up to twist into the shot. If it’s 45 degrees, then you can’t turn your hips all the way into the shot. So, I keep mine pointed straight on my target. My rear foot is also 45 degrees. Gives equal access to pivot forward for a cross, or away for a hook. Hope this helps.
