  • Running substitute

I'm starting a regiment to build up my cardio but I dont like running because I have bad knees (16 seasons of soccer). I can run 3 or 4 days a week if I have to, I just get sore easily. Instead, I was wondering if an exercise (stationary) bike would work for cardio? If so, should I ride longer, higher resistence than normal, etc?

I can't run that far (more than 2 miles) without my knees killing me. And since I don't go to a gym, my only option is hiking.

Yeah, I forgot that. Swimming is great. I have a pool in my backyard, not that big, but get's my job done for a 1-2 hour workout.

          but swimming does wonders

In my opinion there is no substitute to pounding the pavement

Using a treadmill would be next best

I went running today, about a mile and a quarter. Not too much pain afterwards, so I jumped rope. Felt pretty good. Guess I just need to warm up better. Bike and running looks like what I'll do.
