  • Sparring and Accutane

If you guys don't know that Accutane is, it's an extremely strong medication used for people with severe acne. So I'm going to go on this stuff in about a week for 6 months. From other people's experience, I've leaned that there's lots of major side effects like dryness of skin, drowsiness, sensitive skin, etc and the only one that's a major problem is nose bleeding. My friend told me that if he got pushed gently, he would always bleed everytime, but I know another guy who said it's just random times when it bleeds and he never got them when he got hit.

So obviously, it's different among people. If I turn out to bleed whenever I get hit, what should I do about sparring?

I was asked by this model chick what accutane can do (harmful effects).

Unless they changed the drug to make it safer, I believe that there was a side effect that was fatal You should really speak to another dermatologist before going on that stuff.

I just remember it bieng a HIGHLY dangerous drug and if you are involved in any form of sparring or contact activity you should get at least two or more opinions on the effects of this drug from legit MDs and not some faceless posters on the internet.

Ok, thanks. Even if there's no way around Accutane's effects, I need to ask my derm. on what other medication I can take that can be used with contact sports.

Hey njfighter. my friend is about 1 month from getting off that stuff.. he had ALOT Of acne and now its all gone. he told me that alot of side effects are headache, nosebleed only for some people. and he said that it causes depression. and u have to take depression medication if ur feeling like that. so be careful and to tell u about that whole sparring situation. i would personally try it first and if u get nosebleeds every time. then i think u gotta choose accutane or sparring.

A guy I worked with went on that stuff and his face dried up like a prune and if you touched it he would cringe, even gently. He couldn't even smile and it was hard for him to eat cereal.

I was actually on accutane for around 9 months or so back when i was a sop****re in college (I am a senior now). I had pretty bad acne that nothing really helped. They do prep you on the side effects, however I did not have any depression or other side effects. It is a bit deceiving though, because what the drug does is actually bring out all of the acne hidden under your skin and kills it..so you will get alot worse around 4 weeks into it...and yea you get pretty dry skin and probably will need moisterizer or something...it works great though. My honest recommendation for you would be to stop all forms of sparring, at least all aspects of you getting hit in the face. It will counter the effect of the accutane and leave you worse off and who knows what else. You can still lift normally and go on the bag and mitts, just no real combat would be my recommendation.
              Hope that helps!

Dam. I guess it's different for everyone but I doubt I'm going to go on Accutane now.

I'm definately not going to stop sparring. Not sparring isn't a posibility. I guess I could ask the derm. for something else besides accutane or anything else without those kind of side effects.

I remember when this kid from my school went on it and for the first 2 and a half months he had to swear sun glasses inside because that stuff gave him a sensitivity the light
