So I've been training MMA/Boxing since I was 15 on and off. I'm turning 27 this week and it's just now or never man. I've always wanted to fight but the cost of training and my financial hardships, constantly battle homelessness, little to no family. It just hasn't worked out. When I was a kid though in and out of juvey, my probation officer's supervisor told me "You need to forget fighting and try to get a normal career and help your mom. You'll never be a fighter." It's always stuck with me and I've always had the fire to prove him wrong but life has been rough to me up to this point.
I responded to a craigslist ad for an amatuer MMA fight, a bit unsanctioned because the guy said "we are new but want solid core of guys to help make this thing legit." I'm down but he can't seem to find anybody above 160 to fight me.
I want to have some amatuer fights, I'm not expecting to be a world beater but I just want to fight a few amatuer fights, maybe even go pro just to say I followed my dream and did it. How can I do that with minimum financial support? Alot of these matchmakers want you to be at a legit school. My homey who i trained with on and off at these same schools could easily corner me as hes a hardcore fight fan like myself, was always one of the best kids in the class, knows the in's and outs, knows my strengths and weaknesses.
I just want to fight like the old school guys, just show up and prove my worth. I've gotten myself into good shape, eating right, and been training already. Laugh all you want if this sounds ****** but I just gotta do this man. I don't care if I get messed up. I know I can fight and hold my own. I can prove myself in these amatuer fights and hopefully have a coach see me and hopefully try to work with me regardless of my financial struggles to help me get better if he sees I'm just being coached by my friend and show promise.
