    So Unfit...

Okay so me and my friend have decided we are no where near the fitness level we should be...
I'm a big boxing fan and decided to start off by doing sit ups and press up at home for a general fitness thing we're also gonna start off hitting the roads...
So... what would you guys suggest for a starting routine for the roads...
How long for, how hard, how many times a week.
So would running 3-4 times a week for 30 mins, say doing 5 mins jog, 1 min walk... or just go at a comfortable jogging pace til we tire or what...
Any input would be greatly appriciated
    Thanks

If you are in really horrible shape (from the sound of it), run jog 50 yards slow, then walk 100 yards. Go for about 1 mile. Gradually reduce the distance you walk and increase the distance you run in each interval. Soon you should be doing one mile jog slowly no problem. Work up to about 3 miles slow jogging per day, and you are ready to begin serious training.

i'd say jog 4minutes walk 1minute and do that for 30minutes. Do that for a week or two. Then Start increasing the time you run and lessin the time you walk until you can run for 30mins strait

Just go at your own pace. For starters jogged 2 laps around the Hood or your block.

Start from jogging 1 mile a day and increase gradually. I did this and gradually increased myself to run 3 miles a day for M-F. My ultimate goal is to run 5 miles a day.

Run using telophone poles to gauge yourself. If you are completely new to running, map out a course of about 4-5 miles. Walk the course a couple of days. Then run, counting how many telephone pole you can go before you have to stop, then go from there. Increasing the number of poles you can go as you improve.

Once you can run the full distance, then sprint for a few telephone poles, before going back to running. Also, you want to run, not jog.

Wouldn't it be better to start off with jogging until we get a little bit fitter, baring in mind neither of us have been doing any kind of regular fitness type stuff, will do a hard jog and see how it goes.

              Thanks all for the input

I suggest, running on a treadmill and/or riding a stationary bike, also you should try doing leg squats with really light weights to help build your muscles.

                  Day 1...

We hit the back lanes by our village today...

I felt okay jogging at quite a quick pace, we were only out for 30 mins and we got quite a distance...

Did the jog/walk/jog/walk but didnt time it, we used markings at the side of road, like trees, side roads and signs we just thought right run to the sign and walk to the next thing... it went well we got to the end of a road, sat down under a tree and made our way back...

I'm actually fitter than I was expecting heh.

Anywho thanks for all the input, it sure helped
