    I'd listen to him. I've lost more weight listening to the guys on this forum about diet than I have just plain exercising. I don't even count calories because my weight is steadily still coming off, slowly don't get me wrong, but at a healthy probably 1lb a week. It's hard to actually overeat if you're eating clean (calories wise).
