    Why are heavyweights slower?

Why do heavyweights tend to be slower? I sparred a 210 lb partner. I myself weigh 160 and he did wear me down with his strength on the inside, but he moved so slow in everything. Movement, punches, and his feet looked really heavy. Does having extra weight affect footwork and agility?

Is this a serious question? You want to know why someone forty pounds heavier than you is slower than you?

Look at my question this way. Does having extra body weight affect your agility, footwork and movement?

I legitimately had a similar conversation with my coach last week Friday, and he looked at me like I was dumb as hell for even asking. In my defense, when I'm at my boxing club, the heavyweights don't come to train until usually after I leave, might have one or two, but I stayed later than normal and suddenly the place had like 5 or 6. Which, was odd for me, I'm used to lightweight-welter guys on the daily.

Anyway, asked my coach some about heavyweights, and in the end he said the problem and hardest part for heavyweights is keeping it healthy and toned. Another coach stopped and added into the convo saying, best way to beat a heavyweight is let them punch themselves tired, just stay on the defense and move like crazy, by the third round they're just too tired.

So, yeah, naturally heavier people are slower, but I think a lot of heavyweights don't train to be necessarily fast as possible, just strong.

I love how, online, people ask weird, common sense questions and then act surprised at your surprise.
I think some people just have terrible observational skills.
