  • Basketball for conditioning...

I encourage my boys to play a team sport a long with their boxing and my 13yo just made the Freshman Summer basketball team. They've been practicing about 3hrs a day 5 days a week + he is also playing B-Ball for my cities rec team.

Anyways, theres a show coming up and the California State Championship the following month. So my question is, do any of you use a sport like Basketball alone to condition or stay in condition?

Ive still been working pads with him. Ive also had him hit the bags and spar a couple times since the summer season began but due to the amount hes already working out, Ive limited his boxing to 45mins a day.

Basketball is a good workout if you are actually playing in a game. But I find that it can be hit or miss if you are just shooting hoops or dribbling around with nothing at stake. Too easy to slow down and move at your own pace.

I actually play myself, around an hour or so per week. I have a half court in my backyard.
