    Boxing coaching

can boxing coaches teach only what they want to teach? for instance, I am not too fond of non-defense based styles if I were to become a coach could I only teach that style? or do I have to teach whatever the student wishes me to teach them?

If you think it’s a good idea to teach someone no defence I don’t think you should coach.

Good offense beats a good defense

You teach what you either know or believe in.

I had a boxing coach that was super fooking mexican style boxing. Like straight out of Juan Manuel Marquez textbook. Right down to the awkward side stance, tucked lead elbow, tight glove to the chin and body, the bounce and everything.

I didn't like it. It wasn't for me. I did it for a little while then did it my way. He accepted it, we moved on. Simple as that.

Even if you want to be an offensive fighter if you lack head movement and some decent defence it’s only a matter of time till someone knocks you out.

                You a pro?

Amateurs is about punches landed not dodging them....

Who throws and lands the most punches wins on the point system in the amateur system.

If you are a pro it’s different.

I'm not sure if this is international or just ny country, but a few years back they got rid of the landed punches scoring system and now judge amateur fights similar to pro fights.

                    Just your country.

Even Olympic boxing is based on punches landed.
