Should you hook with vertical or horizontal fists?

        I notice that when I hook off the jab I keep my palm facing down. Like a 1-3 combo I find I get it off quicker because my hand is already in that position from the jab.
        But when I throw a 1-2-3 my hand will be veritical ( palm facing me) because it feels more powerful.
        Is this something other people do? Or is that a bad habit I have picked up.

                  I was taught exactly to do it as you say, in shorter distances you would use vertical, for longer distances the palm down one is better. Also your wrist would suffer less. You can try right now twisting your wrist as in a vertical one while moving you arm away from you, and you might see there´s more tension in your wrist muscles the farther away you have your vertical hooked fist.
