Is it true lifting weights will make you slower in boxing?

    No.

The opposite is generally true, assuming of course 1) one is not referring to the recovery period after a training session (by the same token one could argue "weight training will make you WEAK!", 2) the boxing training is structured to allow for the increased stress of weight training without overtraining, and 3) one is training all of the muscles involved in boxing so that there are no major imbalances or weak links in the kinetic chain.

As one's entire body becomes stronger, any identical voluntary movement will require a smaller percentage of one's maximum ability; of course, maximal ability will also increase. In other words, if one trains the muscles involved in a given activity one's strength-to-weight ratio will improve--even as the muscles trained become heavier.
