  • eating before working out

a sparring partner of mine told me that if I eat and don't wait 2 hours to work out I'm leading my heart into problems because supposdly after eating it's pumping to digest then while working out pumping even more but I usually always eat some food with a lot of protien then work out immediately to take advantage of it, does anyone know what's really the deal??

    thanks,
    amaro

eat pasta 90min-2hr before your workout, dont get stuffed, just satisfied...works wonders for me,i have much more energy when I eat pasta, normal breads seem to burn up too quick

I might eat a sandwich after weighing in when I was an amatuer. Nothing much though, just enough to keep my stomach from rumblin'. I always found that I fought best on an empty stomach. Just seemed to happen that way for me.

carbs will give you energy regardless unless they are refined carbs which will go straight to ur stomach and eating too much of them will give u a stomach ache because they are harder for your body to process. refined carbs=candy, pop, ice cream complex carbs=pasta, bread, etc. eat some carbs and a little protein before you go and workout

a sample snack would be two peices of toast with peanut butter on them and a glass of skim milk

            good luck

hey man im studying to be a nutritionist and i wouldnt listen to your friend. the only thing i know of that effects the heart while working out is caff. if you drink some coffee or something make sure you work out 4-5 hours after. as for eating, if you do eat, eat a small portion like square said, 90min-2 hours before you work out. that way your body get take what you ate and turn it into energy.

Before working out, some protein (usually can of tuna for me) and some carbs (2-3 slices wheat bread) about 1 hour before working out or 1.5 hours before boxing. This is mainly because if I eat too close near boxing, I throw up. After either working out or boxing, it's usually 2 scoops whey, (roughly 40-60 grams protein) and for carbs it's usually some fast-digesting carbs, nothing slow like oatmeal or pasta. Usually 2 bananas or some white bread. A few of my friends even have some skittles; to them, carbs are carbs, lol.

No heartproblems, that's bull! The food might not have time enough to settle in your stomach, and you'll end up throwing up though. The body does use a lot of energy digesting food, so digesting first, and training after is definitely better.
