  • general tips for inside fighting.

    When you and your opponent are inside touching glove to glove in let's say you are both in high guard stance up close or when he's trying to wrap his arms around you and tie you up.

    What's your general take on fighting fighters that won't let you fight in the inside?

    I know keeping middle control is ideal like wrestling when it comes to your arms being free to strike. but what about when they try and smother your punches by grabbing all day or weighing heavier then you and then using same method?

    EDIT::

    Should have just named this "phone booth fighting tips." just remembered the name for it lol. I know you old heads have tricks.

    If a guy is grabbing your arms just shuffle backwards while yanking your arms and your opponent. Make it obvious that he is holding. The ref may caution you for it but you just say he is holding. Just yank the guy forward and off balance, then you nail him with your right fist........Rockin'

      Push him to the cage and knee him in the thighs.

        use your legs and work from the distance.

        As for escaping clinches, see these:

          This is great and you can kind of just let him hold you up which makes it look really obvious and awkward.

          There’s a lot you can do depending on how quick you are on the pickup of how they’re going to initiate a hold. Be patient. You won’t always get in like Chavez Sr. But if youre quick you can pull the elbow quickly and try to get one in that gap. Just be steady. One here, one there, push your elbow into the bicep and try to use leverage and make him get uncomfortable. Maybe you can get better positioning to tussle a bit or sneak a little one in..and you can try to get the break also (if thats what youre trying to do)

          If he yanks your wrists and keep pulling you down just rough house a bit. Push your headgear into his, just make him uncomfortable. Discourage him and make it suck.

            Or avoid it at all costs.

              Look for uppercuts and body shots

                What Rockin' said^^^

                Plus you'll want to keep pushing the fight to the inside because he's obviously uncomfortable there. They can't win a fight with just clinching. Be the first and last to punch, punch with him and when he stops punching. At some point he will have to engage you. Especially over 3 rounds.

                  Make sure your head isn't in the middle. Keep it to the outside of the shoulder on either side.
