  • Liver Punch

This has been an injury plagued year for me boxing wise. First my TFCC injury to my left wrist (Which appears to have healed) now the latest one is is a rib/liver injury sustained while sparring last night. I was fighting probably the best active amateur boxer in our gym because we are pretty much the same size. I always draw him for a least 3 rounds every Thursday. I was finally getting the best of him in my final round when with about 10 seconds left
(Thank God) he hit me with a power hook just below the nipple of my right chest towards the back. For a second there I was out of breath and incapacitated but gained enough composure to get to the ropes to finish the round. It still hurts the next day when I move a certain way. How long will this last? At 57 years old am I to old for this crap? Maybe I should just stick to baseball.

Yes, 57 years old. I also play Amatuer Baseball (not softball) 9 inning games on pro size varsity high school fields on Sundays with for the most part major league rules during the same time as I box. I get some leg injuries in baseball as well. Work out in a regular gym 6 times a week and box 3 times a week with one of those times sparring only in the ring.

Dang, that's impressive. There was a guy about that age at the gym I used to go to but he didn't spar anymore.

            SCBB,

God bless you that you are in such great shape for your age!

Do you remember when Bernard Hopkins KOed Oscar De La Hoya with a liver punch?

I don't remember that but I watched your video and just saw it. I didn't go down but mine is still hurting the next day.

I would let it be. Never mess around with your liver or your kidneys.

My trainer said it is bruised ribs. I will not spar until the pain is gone.
