  • New Training Equipment - True Force Meter

    Dear community,

in the next few months I am going to present a new training equipment for boxing on the crowdfunding portal. The first prototype is currently being manufactured and before launch I would like to know the opinion of other people interested in boxing. Please, take a look on description and if you have any questions, opinions or improvement idea, I would like to hear it

As a boxing "fan", I always missed a device that would show me how strong I punched a bag. Strength is given by stance, body rotation, weight transfer, arm speed and many other details. But without a feedback, it is hard to see which training is rewarding (and which not). I have a solution - device with integrated force sensor for fast and accurate punch impact measurement.

Device is like simple wall punching pad. It has rounded punching area from foam, covered by leatherette. Construction is from solid steel with integrated force sensor for up to 500kg (1102lb). The measured values are displayed in a separate control panel with 2.8 inch LCD (with touch panel). One Control panel can measure from up to five punching pads. Everyone can create their own set or wait for other models I plan later.

Control panel have some another good features like workout timer for intense training (with sound alert) and graphic graph with history of last 300 punches.

Each punching pad has its own calibrated sensor. You can not cheat like with other electronic devices (which calculate "power score" of hand movement acceleration). My device will give you accurate, measurable unit.

Web page, facebook page and other information will be published with the start of the project.

    base example

    Questions I am interested in:
    1) What do you think about it?
    2) Would you welcome a bluetooth connection with smart mobiles?
    3) Is there any other feature you would like to welcome?
    4) Would you buy it? At what price?

    Thank you.
PS: I am sorry for my bad English language.

Is this patented? Why are you putting stuff like this out on a public forum? Wouldn't a test audience with signed NDA's be more appropriate?

Also, what type of integrated force sensor is it and what is the sensor reading exactly? I read something a while back that argued PSI wasn't reliable and there was something else which was more reliable but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Searching and can't find it.

"My device will give you accurate, measurable unit" that is a lofty claim and not sure it's truthful. Can you elaborate please?

Likely has a patent or else why put the info out there. Likely trying to get an idea for marketing purposes.

          Hello,

I will try to answer your questions.

I have no patent. I started developing one year ago. I have tried several sensors, different foams and constructions. I would like to have a robust device at the best price. I live in a small town and I know no boxer here. That is why I am writing here. I would like to know your opinion on my equipment.

"My device will give you accurate, measurable unit" ... If you take a look over a market you can find only two - three devices which can "measure" punching force. I belive everyone know coin machine with punching bag often located in pubs. It will show you "score" from 0 to 999. But it not measure true force because there is a simple accelerometer in suspension arm. For eample value 500 is not in kg, lb or any measurable unit. Another device is small wireless devices you can input into your boxing gloves. It has inbuild accelerometer and other sensors like in most smartphones. Again, it can not give you value in kg, lb or any measurable unit. You can swing very fast with your hand but with small impact power and you can swing slower BUT with high impact power. These devices will not give you correct value... but I do not say they are bad devices! Every correctly used device has its own benefits! ... My device have accurate linear sensor which measure in kg or lb. If you hit my punching pad, it will show you value from 0 to 500kg (1102lb). This is what I mean as "measurable unit". I found inspiration in movie Rocky IV and in one episode of MythBusters. I am using same type of sensor but device from MythBusters I founded on one eshop for $2499. I would like to sell my device for around $100 to $150.

Control panel is small separate plastic box. Simple microprocessor for measuring and 2.8 inch LCD with touch panel. You can connect up to five punching pads with it. I also plan bluetooth with open API. Higher complexity is reflected in the price. So I am here to find out what other people like.

If the project will be successful, I would like to create other types of boxing pads - to practice hooks and uppercuts for example. All compatible with each other so that everyone can create an boxing set by himself.

          Thank you.
          Alexandr

For your own sake, I would get a patent. Ive seen a lot of people lose millions for greats ideas that got stolen.

Measuring force this way is used for ages in agriculture, engineering etc. I do not think you can patent it. When I look back on the whole development, I encountered various obstacles. These experiences and knowhow can not be simply copied.

No. I have no money to pay for it. This is a reason why I will use crowdfunding site.

Do you have a job? Lawyers aren't as much money as you think they are.
