    Took a big shot

Hi I recently started doing muay thai again after taking several years off. About a week ago I was sparring with a young kid who was a lot lighter than me but seemed to have a lot of power behind his punches. I got caught twice with a very powerful right cross on the bridge of my nose. I was stunned for a few seconds each time but didnt think too much of it.

When I got home and blew my nose I had some blood come out and within a few hours my nose was slightly swollen. Now its been 1 week and im still feeling some pain on the bridge of my nose when I touch it. My nose does not look out of shape so im pretty sure its not broken but im just wondering how long the pain will last and is it a good idea to spar again until it fully heals up. I have taken shots to the nose in the past but never had any pain lasting more than a few days.

I didn't mean to hit you that hard, dog. I thought I was going light on you as my trainer told me to do so beforehand. You should've said something to me instead of making a thread on it. Your nose should be fine, but if I was you I wouldn't rely on the internet for opinions regarding this.

How heavy of gloves were you using and did you have headgear on?

The only times I remember getting marked up too bad in sparring is either when I wasn't wearing headgear or when the person had smaller gloves on than they should have for sparring.

We dont use headgear but the sparring is usually light. You always get the odd person who goes hard. We were both using 16oz gloves.

Just use headgear. Doesn’t mean you’re not tough or whatever some people might think. Just means you will be able to keep training and sparring instead of having a ****ed up nose for a week or two.

No headgear is dangerous, could get a cut from a light punch or a head clash, etc.

You bruised your nose, maybe a little worse. doesnt sound like a break but dont know. use your headgear and if you dont use headgear then use bigger gloves.

You're fine. Go back to training and forget about it.
