How much do you think you can increase power by from the first few days ever in a boxing gym (and being fairly unfit) to after you’ve had some proper training as well as weights etc

Walked into a gym for the first time and feel like my punches are weak on the heavy bag was wondering how much you can expect to improve by

I can't even describe how much harder you'll be hitting after 6 months of continuous training. For the first few months or maybe a year you'll notice constant progression week to week but after that you won't notice as much progression. Like weight lifting.

Power is 100% about technique, timing, and accuracy. Strength is so insignificant. It's not about muscling the punch or tensing up really tight. Let the punches flow naturally. Practice throwing the same punch over and over with good technique to make it muscle memory as a beginner. Boxing is about repetition. The first 1-2-3 combination isn't going to knock your opponent out. Hard work and persistence is what will knock them out.

"Amateurs practice until they get it right. Pros practice until they can't get it wrong."

Man it took me years to punch my hardest. This is why I never bought the whole "punchers are born" sure a guy can just hit like a mule because of a God given gift, but you can always improve someones power...maybe it would not have taken this long if I wasn't a weekend warrior, skipping weekends on more than one occasion.

It's one thing to place your feet, twist your body, throw with the right trajectory from start to finish...

It's a whole other thing just making the entire muscle chain click and learning to really let go and not tense up etc...

It takes a lot of conscience work to get it down, but you need to try to understand what it is that you are trying to do...just hitting the bag a million times without any thought wont result in progress.

Your power may increase slightly...but until you get some in ring time you wont go far. Unless you are in it for the fight you are going to be tentative and tense and pull your punches. Confidence will increase your power because the more you see you can do...the more your mind will allow you to do.
