  • How long do boxing gloves last?

I have a pair of 14 oz Venum Elite gloves. They're about 6 months old and i use them for 1- 1.5 hours a day for 5-7 days a week. Over the past couple weeks I've noticed that my top knuckles feel sore and are a little red after training. Am I hitting incorrectly or do I need to get new gloves? Any input?

The most important thing about maintaining your gloves is letting them dry out after each workout try turning them inside out as much as you can and leave them in the sun or take a blow dryer to them otherwise they start getting musty and moldy and breaking down

blow dryers get pretty hot. better off using a low heat, long exposure dryer like a glove and boot dryer for ski boots.

TS, are you using your sparring gloves all the time? bag gloves are a hell of a lot more durable. sparring gloves are designed to be easier on you opponents and the padding will shift more and break down. but as other dude said, make sure they're getting as dry as you can get them each day. if they go striaght into your bag and they're damp the next day it's only a matter of time before they A: break down B: f#cking stink!

My hands are always cut up or bruised when I start boxing again after taking a lay off. The more often you work, the better your body will adapt to punching.

It could be your wraps. Make sure you have good wraps and not warn out ones and pad your knuckles well with them. My wraps are 3 years old and stained with lots of blood and sweat. I should probably get new ones but I like to use equipment until its absolutely unusable anymore. Probably a result of growing up in scarcity idk haha

Different gloves have different padding. Some gloves don't have a lot of padding in the knuckles compared to other ones. I've only used a crappy 40 dollar pair of 14 oz everlast for the last 3 years for bag work and sparring and the knuckles are ripping. Wouldn't recommend those gloves for anyone that can hit half way decent. The bag I beat on right now is pretty dense because it's outside in the garage in the cold (I don't train at a gym rn I just stay in shape until I go back in May) and if I hit it too hard with those gloves on I'll break my hands. Invest in a good quality pair like the higher end Everlast that cost $130 if you have the money. Probably wouldn't go with Grants, Winnings, or any of those $200+ gloves unless you're a very elite amateur or professional.

        -Check Wraps
        -Check Knuckle Padding
-Check the density of the bag you're using
        -Adjust accordingly

To give you a definitive answer, gloves last for however long you plan on using them and how you take care of them. I've made a low quality, horrible pair last me for 3 years of hard work. As a result I have lots of scars on my knuckles but no hand injuries. Probably should toss 'em in the trash once they begin to rip on the knuckles because you can cut up your sparring partners that way.

Thanks everyone!! Full disclosure, I didn't know there was a difference between sparring and bag gloves. Can anyone recommend a good brand of bag gloves that use synthetic leather? How's Hayabusa?

Hayabusa is OK. Not my cup of tea, but wouldn't advise them for sparring.

Those are pretty good. Rival is starting to make a real name for themselves.
