I don't want this to seem confusing. Do you tend to keep your fists open or relaxed before throwing a punch, but then close them towards the impact of a punch. Or, do you keep your fists closed at all times.
Open Or Closed

Keep your fist closed at all times so you can feel the impact of the force being delivered on your punch -
I keep mine open and relaxed and make the fist when impact occurs. Almost like reaching out to grab something starting with a open hand and then closing it when theres extension.Comment

If you are a right handed fighter than your left hand should always remain closed while the right hand remains open and in guard to thwart jabs and hooks by your opponent. Unless you are going to punch your opponent, in which case you should close your hand......Last edited by Rockin'; 03-22-2018, 10:15 PM.Comment

I heard you only tense up on impact. Mastering this though is really freakin hard personally speakingComment

When throwing, your hand is closed through the motion but you only tense at impact. If you try to keep your hand open until impact, you may end up stumping and damaging your fingers on someone's skull because the target isn't always where you anticipate it will be.
As Rockin said, when in guard, you might keep a hand open to catch jabs, etc, depending on your style.Comment

Whatever suits you tbh. Just don't keep it completely open ever because it will take too much to close it and you might break your hand.Comment
