So my trainers have tought me to hold my guard like this,im an ortodox fighter so my right hands fist is resting on my chin, the elbow is close to the body, the chin is tucked in and my lead hand the left hand is forming something close to a 90 degree angle and my left hands fist is in the forearm level so that leaves my left side of the body open for a body shot is it bad to hold a guard like this?

There are no foolproof guards. But many of them are structured in a certain way to leave specific openings in order to bait the opponent and apply specific counterpunches.
You'd have to check with your trainer to see what the intent behind your particular guard is.Last edited by ShoulderRoll; 02-24-2018, 01:23 PM.

Every guard has advantages and disadvantages. Your trainers probably have a reason for the guard he wants you to use. Just ask them about it and they should be able to tell you why. From what you described your lead hand would be forward more and closer to your opponent. One advantage of that is that you can jab them quicker since your hand doesn't have to cover as much distance. Lennox Lewis did that often.
