I trained, sparred, but never competed. I trained for like a year in the UP of Michigan by myself out in the middle of nowhere in the basement when I first started. Mom moved that way with my stepdad. I went with. Had a heavy bag, double end bag, speed bag & that Tyson head movement bag that I forget what its called. Nice lil setup lol. Think I even bought some of those John Brown(?) Ringside tapes they were selling around that time since there wasn't a gym (or f#cking grocery store) for 100+ miles iirc.

Moved to Chicago after a year in the UP & a year back in lower MI. Had a regular job & just did boxing as like a hobby/workout thing in my garage. Didn't really have time for going to a gym although talked to a couple trainers at fights I'd go to there. Moved back to MI a couple years later & got into training at a legit gym with legit trainers finally. Thats actually the first time I was sparring people. Believe Johnny Garcia would later fight outta that gym or mighta been an unknown back then idr.

Met some cats who competed in the Michigan Golden Gloves & winning that was my goal for a few years, but always chicken sh^tting out for one reason or another before I realized I was worried about brain damage & if I wasn't 100% I shouldn't start that journey.

Would off & on train from then, sparring less, since I kinda decided I'd never compete. Got into a serious relationship that took up all my free time, like those things tend to do if you aren't 100% into something already, which pretty much stopped the going to the gym completely & later got into online poker cuz less brain damage, but still that competive thing I needed at the time.

I was 165ish (I'm 6'2) at my best in shape weight. Ballooned up to 250-260 playing poker lol (bout 210-220 these days). Now its been around a decade probably since I've even hit a bag, but my a$$ will randomly shadowbox for 30 minutes if I pass a mirror still today lol.

F#cking bio I just wrote lmfao.

LOL yeah, interesting, talking about brain damages, Wilder said a smart thing recently (I was quite surprised lol), "the head isn't meant to be hit in the first place"
I totally agree with that is why I wanted to stop taking those risks, that's a life choice. You made that choice quicker than anybody doe LOL

Some dudes who started boxing in ams the same year as myself 2004 if I remember ended pros after around 30 ams fights.

They ended with kinda records like 6-7 (they would be called bums out there BUT those NSB keyboard warriors would not tell them to their face trust me)

Fighters with as much losses as wins aren't pretty boys like Floyd lol.

A sparring mate who ended pro as a light heavy was something like 8 losses, and dude had a chin.

Believe me, 8 pro losses at LHW, your face gonna tell the story LOL. When i check him in the street, and see his nose, eyebrows, I'm glad I never went that far (let's be real I know I was no some killa ala Roberto Duran in the making).

Oh man yea you aren't kidding. Thats the things I was thinking of. Seeing cats all jacked up from boxing. I've seen boxing change guys from afar A TON & even seen it close up a few times with people I had more of a relationship with. I sometimes think what I'd be like now if I'd have boxed & its not a good thought when I think that even if I'd have achieved some level of fame or accomplishment in boxing. For me the trade off wouldn't have been worth it I don't believe.

But yea the stuff about random guys who got sh^tty pro records, but deserve respect for jumping in the game is for sure something I'm down for.

One of the cats outta that gym I was at was a felon who did some sorta 8-10yr prison stint & was trying to get his life right. Started boxing amateur. Did well. Turned pro at 30 something iirc. Think he's 2-6 now if he's not retired, but I got mad respect for that cat cuz I know something about what he's been through. Even if most people would call him a nothing in pro boxing I got nothing but respect for his sh^tty 2-6 record cuz that guy put his blood, sweat & tears on the line every time he got in there.

That deserves respect & idk if a lot of boxing fans can even grasp something like that cuz they don't see some of these boxers as real people trying to excel in something even if they come up short almost i feel like.

How come you haven’t checked any yourself ?
The most laid back is Barrys Boxing. Then Toccos, Vargas has a gym and even Mayweather's gym if you can get permission to train there.

          2-6 ain't that bad, I mean 90% of pros were decent/good ams.
So when you pass pro, all the guys you facing can fight so it's hard to get some wins, you gotta grind each win as hell.

I know it looks easy when you follow the Shakur Stevenson and Bivol of the world starting their pros career, but those guys are special and on a huge winning streak, mentally 110% focus on boxing, live for it.

2-6 might be more than decent if you are facing some good up and comers.

          Whatever any fighter deserve respect.

Yep. If no one has signed you to a promotion deal or if you can get a local promoter relationship going on where a guy will get you learning fights vs just fights you gotta take what you can get so they get matched tougher than anyone in the pro game out of the gate. Loma bout the only guy with a better opposition list that early in their career than a guy with no one looking out for him in the pro game.

Nah, I mean I dabble on ACR, but nothing serious. I was playing as a job for several years. After Black Friday I went to Canada for a minute & then spent a year in Costa Rica. But I kinda lost my love for poker. Haven't played serious in 5 or 6 years.
