  • Hot bath or cold bath more effective?

After a hard training session, is a hot bath or cold bath more effective at reducing soreness?

I read once that Mike Tyson's old trainer Cus D'amato had him take hot baths to help with soreness. Then I've heard from others that cold baths help with it.

I actually like a hot shower. Even when I get hurt I prefer heating pads if I have access to one.

If possible you should try doing both first a cold bath then straight after that hot. You can do a few cycles of this.
Cold is often believed to work better for muscle soreness but some research has showed that combined treatment of hot and cold works even better. But you should just go ahead and try what work for you best.

I've been taking cold showers every day for the past week and a half. If nothing else, the cold showers toughens you up mentally. Brings you out of your comfort zone. That alone is enough for me to do them.

Always thought for soreness/injury its best to have cold in the first instance, then hot the days following

yeah, after really hard workouts i've always heard coaches saying to get straight under a cold shower for five minutes, to aid recovery. generally speaking though, it's not necessary every time
