  • First Boxing Sparring Session

So I'm 18 yrs old and i want to be a Pro Boxer. So 3 days ago i got myself in a boxing gym. And today i had my first sparring session against a 6ft+ dude who was like 10-12kg bigger than me. I'm 5 9" and 54 kg. And that sparring session happened after 1 hour of hard training. So getting to the point... I got whooped pretty bad. The partner was easy on me but his shots were very accurate and kept hitting me on body and nose and Eye. And being exhausted i could barely lift my hands up. And i kept getting hit. It lasted for around 10mins+ without any break. And i don't know why but i feel extremely sad and demoralized. I dream of being a top boxer like Mayweather and such things happen on the 3rd day itself. So can anyone out here help me out.

lol, did you think you were gonna be like mayweather in the ring after 3 days of training? If you want to get good at the sport you have to start from the bottom, youll get lots more whoopings in sparring but youll get there eventually as long as you persist with it.

Don't be discouraged, keep going and you will soon start to get better.
Do be careful with sparing experienced guys, talk to them and let them know you want to learn, if you have not been assigned a coach at the gym, try to talk to them and let them know you want to learn.
All gyms are different, some may not have put you in with someone after your 3rd day.
      10 + minutes seems excessive.

go to a gym and lift weights/eat more
Youre 5'9 and 54kgs, literally the weight of most girls

Keep sparring, keep training, watch footage of good boxers with good fundamentals and learn

          You thought it'd be easy?

Mostly guys will want to help you provided you're respectful and show you're willing to learn, but also it's not unusual for someone to put it on you a bit in an early session just to make sure you've got the commitment to take a bit of a beating and still come back the next day. A lot of would be warriors walk away once they realise that ****'s gonna hurt. If you really want to do it, you just got to persevere... and that goes for pretty much everything in life. I know it's a cliche, but nothing that's worth having comes easy, man.

            Lots of good feedback already.

Boxing is EXTREMELY difficult. In the early stages try to keep things simple, try not to hold your breath, especially when under pressure, it fatigues you cardio wise, I struggled with this and breathing with my mouthpiece in.

I spent weeks shadow boxing, hitting the bag, mitts, and light body sparring before I did my first proper spar. Maybe you could benefit from this. One thing I learned is there is a difference between being fit, and boxing level fitness. It's not the same as playing a game of basketball, you need to work up to it. That was my experience anyway.

Every boxer worth his salt has taken numerous beatings in the gym. It helps you learn to relax under pressure.
My coach used to always say
“You can’t learn to swim without getting in over your head”

Exactly right, even Mayweather has taken his lumps - for example when he sparred Spadafora

lol, good luck tryna go pro buddy

with boxing, and everything else in life, you just gotta stick with it

nothing like a good ass whooping in sparring to make you realise how much further you have to climb
