I tore my calf muscle playing baseball. It takes a month to heal but you will have a full recovery if you stay off it for that period of time. Mine felt like I got hit there with the ball when I tore it. It turned black and blue. After a month do calf raises in the gym at least twice a week to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I almost went back down on that foot, but something didn't feel right about that last movement and I decided to feel it out, and I sat down on my bucket when I knew it wasn't right, got my stuff together and limped off.
So, I'm icing it every 2 hours, for 20 min. I just slugged back some turmeric with black pepper, ate some anchovies, that should do well for inflammation.
My symptoms - I can only really move by keeping the sprained (left) foot ****ed to the side, I can't put much weight on it at all. this is my first calf sprain. I'm upset about this because I am very passionate about my rope work, my jump roping is part of what keeps me whole.

It's a warm up exercise to get you on the balls of your feel and ready to work. Doesn't improve your boxing in the slightest except maybe calf conditioning. Anyway, good luck. Hope you get better soon.

One good result that's come out of this, is I've been doing a lot more shadowboxing, yesterday I noticed my cross is improving a good bit, getting straighter, snappier. Using band work also.

I tie the greens up high and practice the hook. If I grab both bands and throw it full power, there's a really satisfying loud snap. I let go of one band after a few of those and just focus on technique, turning the lead foot, transferring power. calf popped again yesterday, 4th time since I injured it. Minor though. About the hook, the important things I've found are making sure your stance is right obviously and, beginning the punch from the normal area, with the band maxed out or near to it.
I know you probably know all this already, I'm only sharing it with you in hopes of exchanging wisdomLast edited by Warrior Scholar; 02-10-2018, 07:57 PM.

calf is not 100% but I am skipping much more, training much more. if this happens to you, there is hope, just keep it stretched and stay hydrated.

Take magnesium
2 ibuprofen (reduce inflammation)
Take a Epsom salt bath (95% magnesium sulfate) - 45mins
...quicker way to to heal...

dont think you need to see a health professional tbh, calf diagnosis and rehab is pretty simple. if it didnt swell up like a balloon and you can still move it fairly well then you havent done a full grade 3 tear of it. otherwise its just simple instructions R.I.C.E initially and then start with isometric calf exercises, as they get easier, move onto concentric, as they get easier then move onto eccentric and then hopping exercises after that. theres nothing really fancy or difficult that a specialist is going to tell you.
